• Space cannot be reserved for private events in Oceanfront Parks from June 15 through Labor Day. For events of this nature occurring outside of these dates, please note that the general public admittance cannot be restricted.

While the restrictions on the dates may be discouraging, keep in mind that the weather in Spring and Autumn is quite pleasant in Virginia Beach and the Hampton Roads area. Consider looking into having your wedding ceremony in late April to Memorial Day or after Labor Day until late October. The temperatures may be cooler, but rarely is it so unpleasant that people won’t enjoy being outdoors. This insures that your guests, the bridal parties and the bridal couple will all be comfortable in the dress.

Also, as these dates are considered “out of season”, the hotel rates will be lower, which makes it more affordable for your guests and therefore can increase the likelihood that those whom you ask to join you for your wedding, will be able to join you. Yes, this sentence can also be read that means they will have more money in their wallets to buy you a better wedding gift.

Another suggestion to save money on your beach wedding is look to other days of the week to have you wedding ceremony and reception. Typically Saturday’s are the most popular days for weddings. It is also one of the most popular days for people to head to the beach, so to prevent conflicts look for days with lesser crowds.  Non traditional days such as Sunday or Thursday, may seem odd days for weddings, but because there are fewer demands for weddings on those days, there may be greater availability for the location you want to have it. If you are willing to move to a mid-week wedding, that will free up the venue to book a potentially larger event on that Saturday, so sometimes it is their better interest to move your event. They might even be willing to throw in a discount in order to get your business on a day where they need the business more.  

While they are not on the beach, the Norfolk Marriott Chesapeake recently ran a promotion in which they gave incentives for Sunday weddings. The hotel has a beautiful ball room, great hotel rooms and is centrally located for guests. Consider them as an option should your plans change away from a wedding ceremony on Virginia Beach.
