Getting a marriage license in Virginia is easy.

• You will both need to go in person and show photo IDs like a driver’s license. You can get your license in any Circuit Court in Virginia – it does not have to be in the same city or county where your wedding will be held. The cost is $30.

• It is not necessary to be a Virginia resident or even a US citizen to obtain a marriage license in Virginia.

• There is no waiting period – you can get your marriage license on the same day as your wedding. But you must get married within 60 days of the day you get your license.

The courts are generally open Mon-Fri from 9 am – 4 pm EXCEPT THE VIRGINIA BEACH CIRCUIT COURT CLOSES AT 1 PM ON THURSDAYS AND FRIDAYS. They are closed Saturdays, Sundays and on all state holidays, so be sure to check with the court you plan to go to.
