Forbes Magazine names Virginia Beach Norfolk Top for Jobs this Summer
Virginia Beach Norfolk Area named on of the “Best Cities for Summer Jobs” by Forbes Magazine.
The article promotes the Hampton Roads has a strong outlook because ”the area known as Hampton Roads is home to one of the East Coast’s busiest ports, nearly a dozen military facilities and shipyards, a thriving tourist economy and four Fortune 500 companies.”
Often thought of as just a vacation destination, the Hampton Roads has moved beyond its tourism to become a well-rounded economy with significant industrial, education and health care industries. In the summer tourism revenue flows from two major sources: the beaches and nearby Williamsburg, home to Colonial Williamsburg and the Busch Gardens Williamsburg theme park. The federal government is the region’s largest employer, with the U.S. Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, NASA and NATO all maintaining a significant presence. Then there’s defense contractor Northrop Grumman, which maintains the world’s largest privately owned shipyard in Newport News and is the area’s largest private employer. The economic balance have all combined to provide the region with stability and a healthy job outlook.
