Battleship Wisconsin at Nauticus
Nestled on the newly revitalized downtown waterfront in Norfolk, Virginia, Nauticus is an exciting 120,000 square foot maritime-themed center that explores science, technology and naval history. Nauticus highlights include interactive exhibits, educational HD films and documentaries, the Hampton Roads Naval Museum and USS Wisconsin. Visitors will find a variety of things to do for all ages. Visit the command center Aegis Theater to experience a reenactment of a gripping battle sequence. Cruise along the smooth waters of the Elizabeth River aboard the Victory Rover or buff up on your Virginia history at 1907: The Jamestown Exposition & Launching of the Steel Navy. At the Touch Tank, visitors will come face to face with some of the Chesapeake Bay’s most exotic sea creatures. Hungry? Head to Outtakes Café for a little snack before exploring the historic USS Wisconsin.
The USS Wisconsin is one of the last and largest battleships built in the U.S. Launched in 1943, the ship fought in WWII and the Korean War until it was decommissioned in 1991. Visitors are invited to explore the decks of this majestic ship on a self-guided tour. On the second floor of Nauticus, don’t miss the Hampton Roads Naval Museum, which celebrates 234 years of naval history. Visitors will discover exhibits and galleries related to the history of the USS Wisconsin as well as old uniforms, detailed ship models and artwork.
